Delft Solids Solutions needed a highly sensitive analytical instrument that can be used in research experiments for precise measurements of very small amounts of material. As a contract research centre, Delft Solids Solutions needed an instrument that could be easily configured for different experiments and that was also highly accurate in measuring the mass of small quantities of powders and particles to allow for accurate formulation development, material characterisation, analytical testing and quality control.
The CI Precision Solution
Delft Solids Solutions have used CI Precision’s MK2-M5 microbalance for over 4 years and have recently used the balance for sorption studies (CO2, H2O, etc.) as well as desorption studies (NH3, n-butylamine). The microbalance has also been used in TG-MS experiments.
Sample sizes are usually 100mg with particle sizes varying from several μm up to mm. Delft Solids Solutions have also used the microbalance to measure gels. The typical experiment time is 6 – 72 hours and uses a variety of gases.
