Inpac AS, a Norwegian contract manufacturer and packaging partner for pharmaceutical companies throughout Europe and the Middle East, has recently upgraded its dispensary management system (DMS) to the latest Ci-DMS from CI Systems.
This Windows-based software replaces an earlier non-Windows version of Ci-DMS that had originally been implemented in 1991/2. The system has seven dispensing stations and three supervisory stations.
Although Inpac reviewed DMS offerings from other suppliers, the company's cost-benefit analysis indicated that Ci-DMS was the optimum system. The analysis showed that Ci-DMS possessed good functionality at a competitive price, CI Systems truly understood the requirements for dispensary management, and CI Systems was a stable company with an excellent track record. Furthermore, it was advantageous that CI Systems had a good working knowledge of Inpac's manufacturing plant in Lier, Norway and had performed well as a supplier for around 15 years. Finally, Inpac was confident that CI Systems would be able to provide long-term support for this business-critical software.
Truls Simensen, General Manager of Inpac AS, comments: "Ci-DMS works extremely well, providing a fully documented process for the dispensing and weighing of excipient and active materials in a secure data environment. We have had a support contract with CI Systems for many years and have always been very happy with the service we have received. Following this positive experience, we were pleased to upgrade to the latest version of Ci-DMS. With on-site support, the implementation went very smoothly and quickly."
As well as providing an auditable dispensary management function that is core to Inpac's quality assurance scheme, Ci-DMS also links into Inpac's JD Edwards enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, updating inventories automatically when raw materials are dispensed. This enables Inpac to operate highly efficiently, with minimal risk of errors being made.
Ci-DMS is a standard product, yet it is modular and highly configurable. This is particularly beneficial for Inpac, as it enables one system to be used for all types of dispensing and IBC addition employed in the production of solid, creams and liquid products.
